Jason C. Spears, Esq. Joins Youth Represent Board
Youth Represent is pleased to announce that Jason C. Spears. Esq. has joined our Board of Directors.
Jason is Chief Compliance Officer and Associate General Counsel at Addition LP, a venture capital fund in New York City, and has an extensive career in investment funds, legal advising, and financial services.
Youth Represent’s mission inspired Jason to serve. Growing up in segregated Selma Alabama, in one of the poorest counties in the country, Jason said that he experienced family members and friends spending years going in and out of the criminal system. “I watched them get mistreated and misled every step of the way,” Jason said.
This desire to serve brought Jason to Youth Represent, who is excited to support “an organization that says what they want to do without any coded language. ‘Youth Represent envisions a world where the racist legal system has been dismantled,’ that’s powerful!” Jason commented.
Board Member Jeanne Adams has known Jason for years. “Personally and professionally, Jason will be a great fit and value add to this board,” Jeanne said. “From a legal standpoint and understanding the importance of the finances that go behind continuing our mission, as well as Jason’s passion and commitment for social justice and uplifting Black and Brown people, I’m confident Jason will be a spectacular addition to our Board.”
“The prospect of being in a room with a Board who is singularly focused” on these issues is “just incredibly exciting for me. Working with an organization that is actually achieving measurable success [is too],” Jason said. “I’m ready to take this angst and agitation that I have and channel it in a positive way.”
Jason is a graduate of Morehouse College and earned his Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law and his Master’s of Business Administration from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Spears resides in New Jersey with his wife and two sons.
Jason joins a 12-member Board alongside Directors Maggie Lear, Richard McKeon, Kevin Baisden, Roberta Meyers Douglas, Colin H. Mincy, Hitha Palepu, Jeanne Adams, Nathalie Berger, Rini Fonseca-Sabune, Wes Korantang, and Leonard Noisette.
